Hands-on experience in Intro to Metals class

Posted on: Dec 18, 2023

Before the first trimester ended, students in Mr. Stoudt’s Intro to Metals class learned how to make a box using sheet metal and about opportunities in careers that require technical ability and specialized skill sets.

Representatives from J-Berd Companies led students in grades 9-12 through a project on how to make a box made from sheet metal. J-Berd is a multi-trade subcontractor in residential and commercial plumbing, heating, cooling, electrical and fire protection. The project simulated putting together duct work in the field, putting the fittings and components together and using the right tool for the job.

Construction trades offer a wide variety of jobs to individuals interested in working closely with a team and collaborating on different projects. The goal of J-Berd Companies visiting Delano Public Schools was to give students a Construction trades experience and to talk about careers in the Construction trades after high school. “There is a huge need for skilled trade individuals,” said J-Berd Marketing Communications Manager, Megan Henkemeyer. “Our goal in coming to Delano was to do some hands-on work with students and to expose kids to careers in Construction trades.”
