How will I know what my child is working on?
Your child will be filling in their Google Calendar each day with assignments. If your child is absent, the 6th grade homework webpage and Google Classroom will have details about what they have missed. Skyward is a place where you are able to check updated grades and missing assignments. We encourage you to check Skyward often.
How can I help my child with their homework?
The single most important thing you do to assist with your child’s homework is to help them to organize and prioritize their tasks. Helping your students to develop their executive functioning skills is essential to lifelong success in their personal and professional lives. We encourage you to have daily conversations with your child to summarize their day and talk about what they are focusing on in each class.
What will my student’s schedule look like?
Students and parents can cross reference their schedule with the times identified below.
Day 1 vs. Day 2 - this will be published on the morning announcements and on the TV screens throughout the building. Day 1 or 2 classes include WIN for one day (e.g., Day 1) and Choir/Band on the alternate day (e.g., Day 2).
How does my student retake a test?
Learning is most important at DIS. A test retake is your student’s ability to demonstrate continuous learning. A test retake procedure will be used by each teacher should your child decide he/she wants to retake a test. It is important to know that a retake may NOT be offered for all tests. The reason for this is that students will have future opportunities to demonstrate their learning on this material in the weeks to come. While a test may not have a retake available, we will certainly work with your child to give them the feedback they need to make corrections for their future work.
