Welcome to Delano Public Schools!
Thank you for taking the time to visit Delano Public Schools website. As you scroll through the pages, we hope you can find the information you are looking for as well as see evidence of academic excellence. Delano Public Schools are conveniently located on one campus. Our schools are a vital part of the communities we serve, and we receive an incredible amount of support from our residents.
Delano Public Schools recently implemented a 5-Year Strategic Plan. In this plan, our vision is to provide our students systemic academic growth that promotes educational excellence and continuous improvement for every learner in a digital society. Along with this vision, our four major aims include: Technology, Curriculum, Professional Development and Facilities. This plan is an ongoing process that will insure that our school district remains and continues to improve upon the tradition of educational excellence. Beginning with elementary school, students learn to be lifelong learners by building a strong foundation necessary to prepare them for the next step in their education. At the middle and high school levels, students are involved in many innovative programs. The first of these is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education. A few years ago, Gateway to Technology (GTT) was implemented in the middle school, along with Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in the high school. As we move forward, curriculum will continue to be examined and enhanced to meet the demands of a digital learning environment. College in the Schools (CIS) and Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer students the benefit of college courses without the full cost of tuition, allowing them to broaden their course selection before they enter a post-secondary institution. Along with these programs, our staff continues to engage students through the latest technological advances. These, coupled with engaging extracurricular activities, helps us strive to better the educational opportunities for our students.
Delano Public Schools are also known for high standardized and ACT test scores. The following is our testing report card:
∙ In Reading, 73% of our students met or exceeded the standards in grades 3 through10. This far exceeds the statewide average of 58%.
∙ 81% of Delano students grades 3-8 and grade 11 met or exceeded standards on the Mathematics test. At the state level, only 61% achieved this success.
∙ In Writing, the average score was 3.9, while the state average was 3.4. This test is given to all students in grade 9. The state passage rate was 88%, compared with our 8th grade passage rate of 99% on their first attempt.
∙ Our ACT average is 24.2, once again topping the state average of 23.
Along with our test scores, Delano Public Schools is also proud of the many awards we have received:
∙ Ranked #1 nationwide by Forbes Magazine for high performing schools with affordable housing.
∙ Delano High School, Delano Middle School and Delano Elementary School have all been awarded the National Blue Ribbon School Award by the U.S. Department of Education.
∙ Delano Elementary was designated a 2012 Reward School by the Minnesota Department of Education, received a Minnesota School of Excellence Award from the Minnesota Elementary School Principals Association and is ranked a Minnesota Five Star School.
∙ Delano Middle School received National Recognition for its Gateway to Technology (GTT) program. This is the middle school program of Project Lead the Way, the nation’s leading provider of STEAM education.
∙ Delano High School was designated a Model School by the International Center for Leadership in Education in 2007 and again in 2010. In 2006, DHS received the Minnesota Academic Excellence Foundation School Spotlight Award. In addition, DHS is ranked a Minnesota Five Star School in Math and Reading, and for several years Delano High School has been recognized as one of America’s Best High Schools from U.S. World News and Report magazine.
