Students in CIS present final projects

Seniors in the College in the Schools Psychology class recently presented their final projects to students and parents. Each group selected a topic. Their topics were phrased as research questions. Some examples included "does more money equal more happiness?", " how does screen time impact teen mental health?", "how does PTSD impact relationships?".

About a month ago students completed a "Library assignment" where they had to locate 10 academic journal articles on one topic. Each group had to analyze four to five academic journal articles as they researched their topic. The assignment served as their final project in addition to a cumulative final. They were graded on their ability to determine primary vs secondary sources, determine the type of studies they were looking at, and determine what each journal article concluded after conducting the study. In addition to their tagboard presentation, each group wrote a four to five page literature review summarizing the information in each journal article.

This proved to be a challenging assignment for many because reading academic journals is much more complicated than reading current events articles.
