DIS shows empathy during give back week

Posted on: Apr 18, 2024

During March students at DIS focused on what it means to be empathetic. Give Back Week is a school-wide service learning project to benefit two outstanding organizations that impact the lives of children and their families: the Ronald McDonald House and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

The student’s commitment to help is empathy put into action. For the third consecutive year, students spent the month focusing on ways to show empathy and learning what it means to be empathetic. Students collected food and money donations and collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Two students from the classrooms that made the most significant donations, won an opportunity to PIE their “favorite” teacher. Assistant Principal Mr. Hinker was a fan favorite as were Ms. Campbell, Mr. Hall, Mr. Hiltner and Mr. Potter.

All of the students did an amazing job at showing empathy and were rewarded with a friendly dodgeball tournament.
