Students at DES experience Taekwondo

Posted on: Feb 7, 2024

Over the past three weeks (nine days) students at Delano Elementary School experienced Taekwondo during Phy Ed time. Master Travis from World Taekwondo Academy in Delano, introduced students in grades K-3rd to the Taekwondo art form and Korean terminology for various moves, stances, forms and commands. Students learned Taekwondo is not just about punches jabs, kicks, blocks and pads. Taekwondo is a lifestyle guided by Courtesy - students responded to Master Travis with an enthusiastic and  respectful "Yes Sir!";  Integrity - students learned about right and wrong and not using Taekwondo on classmates, animals, family members or adults; Perseverance - students learned about setting and reaching goals; Self control - students learned the importance of controlling words, thoughts and actions, and  Spirit.

During the nine days instruction held during scheduled Phy Ed time, students learned that defending himself/herself is important, but far more important are  tools they need to develop into a well-rounded adult; sincerity, respect and self-control; Individual effort and self-confidence; character and self-esteem; and concentration.

Thank you Master Travis of World Taekwondo Academy in Delano for helping deliver a new educational experience to kids at DES. Master Travis has a deep passion for Taekwondo and loves instructing students of all ages. Travis, a dad himself, enjoys watching students grow in strength while gaining confidence and empowerment.
