School Board
The Delano School Board represents the needs and interests of students and staff in the district, making decisions to ensure the rights and welfare of all students and equal access to public education. Board members shall promote a positive, working culture that meets the educational needs of all students.
School Board Meetings
All board meetings are open to the public, except for those specifically permitted by law to be closed for discussion of identified issues such as negotiation strategy or litigation. A list of agenda items for each Work Session, Regular and Special Board meeting is available prior to the meeting. Meeting notices are posted on the district’s website prior to the meetings.
The School Board will hold meetings in the council chambers of Delano City Hall, 234 2nd St N, Delano, MN 55328. Unless otherwise indicated, Work Sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. and Regular Board Meetings begin at 7 p.m.
Public Comments
The public is given an opportunity to address the Delano Public School's School Board regarding items that are or are not on the agenda. Public comments are an opportunity for the school board to hear feedback and input. Board members will not respond to comments or questions. Strategic Direction. Governance, not management.
The board is responsible for setting the strategic direction for the district, not for managing the tactics of day-to-day operations. The board will set clear goals for the superintendent that align with the strategic direction of the district. The board will enact policies to ensure fair, efficient, and effective operations, and will monitor, but not manage, the implementation of plans and policies.
School Board Members
The Delano Public Schools, School District is governed by a seven-member board elected by residents residing in the school district and serve alternating four-year terms. The Superintendent serves as an ex officio, non-voting member of the board. Each board member serves on at least one committee: Building and Grounds, Transportation Negotiations, Classified Employee Negotiations, Teacher Negotiations Administrative Negotiations, Finance Committee, Delano City /School, and Legislative, MAWSECO, Wright Technical Center, Mn High School League and Safe Schools and SAFF. The Board will make committee appointments in January.
