Delano Public Schools will accommodate data requests pursuant to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Please refer to the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act when creating your request.

Requests
Requests must be submitted on a data request form. Data that is not readily available may require additional time to gather and review. The district will reply within 60 days of a data request. The district’s response time may be affected by the size and complexity of the particular request, including necessary redactions of the data, and by the number of requests made within a particular period of time.

Private or confidential data will not be shared
Student directory information is considered private data and will not be shared. Under federal law, “Directory information” means information contained in an education record of a student that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. It includes: the student’s name; address; telephone listing; electronic mail address; photograph; date and place of birth; major field of study; dates of attendance; grade level; enrollment status (i.e. full-time or part-time); participation in officially recognized activities and sports; weight and height of members of athletic teams; degrees, honors, and awards received and the most recent educational agency or institution attended. It also includes the name, address, and telephone number of the student’s parent(s).

Solomons Amendment
The Solomon Amendment is a 1996 federal law (10 U.S.C. § 983) that allows military recruiters access to student recruitment information. In accordance with the Solomon Amendment, Delano Public Schools will provide military recruiters the name, home address and home phone number of students who are aged 17 and older, for military recruitment purposes only. The names of students who have opted out of this request will not be provided. 

Fees
Requestors may have to offset the actual cost of searching for and retrieving data as outlined in the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act.
