It takes many hands, hearts, and talents to support over 2,400 students and 300 staff members, ensuring educational excellence every day. When it came time to recognize support staff for their contributions to students at Delano Public Schools, four individuals rose to the top. Judy Reed, Kim Phillips, Jeanne Schansberg and Galina Menard each received a 2024 Educational Support Staff (ESS) Award during a ceremony at Resource Training & Solutions in St. Cloud on Nov. 20. An ESS Award, honors individuals working in non-teaching roles within a school district, like bus drivers, custodians, food service staff, or office assistants, who go above and beyond their duties to support students and the school community.

Judy Reed
Judy Reed has been a dedicated presence at Delano Public Schools for the past 11 years. Her journey includes being a long-term substitute at Delano High School, spending four years at TKC/Delano Preschool, and spending the past six years as a special education paraprofessional at Delano Intermediate School (DIS).

At DIS, Judy ensures all students participate fully in general education and activities. Her passion for helping students grow and learn—from the start of the school year to the last day—is what keeps her coming back year after year. She finds great joy in working alongside the DIS staff to help every student reach their potential.

While winning an ESS Award was a meaningful honor for Judy, she humbly admits that she doesn’t do her job for recognition. Her true motivation lies in seeing students achieve great things.

Outside of work, Judy volunteers in the community and at school events. She and her husband have two children in the district, and their 2.5-year-old Corgi keeps her on her toes.

Galina Menard
Galina Menard has been a dedicated special education paraprofessional at Delano High School for the past three years. She was selected as an ESS Award honoree for her exceptional work in ensuring students complete their tasks promptly and efficiently, making the teacher’s job easier. As an integral member of the special education team, Galina builds positive relationships with students, is flexible with her schedule, and assists with a wide range of classroom activities. Her ability to understand each student's strengths and needs, along with her genuine care for their well-being, allows her to go above and beyond every day. Galina's dedication and effectiveness make her an invaluable asset to the school community.

Galina was deeply honored to be recognized by her coworkers and selected as an award recipient. She is grateful to be part of the Delano School Community and to witness the success of all students. "I truly enjoy helping students. We build such incredible bonds. Seeing them achieve their goals in class and progress academically brings me so much joy. Knowing I am making a difference in their lives is so rewarding, and I am thankful for the opportunity to do so."

When she's not working at the high school, Galina enjoys spending time outdoors and creating memories with her husband and family.

Jeanne Schansberg
Jeanne Schansberg, a dedicated special education paraprofessional at Delano Elementary School, has been an invaluable support system for students with special needs for the past six years. Known for her energy and enthusiasm, she helps her students accomplish tasks they initially think are beyond their abilities. Her deep commitment to fostering growth and providing opportunities for her students has made her an exceptional presence at the school.

Jeanne’s coworkers recognize her commitment to her students' growth and to creating opportunities for them to enhance their skills and reach their goals. They are quick to admit her enthusiasm and willingness to assist, brightens any space.

Despite being honored by the recognition, Jeanne remains focused on her love for helping kids. She cherishes the moments when students excitedly greet her in the halls and classrooms, and she takes pride in being someone who can make a difference in their lives. Outside of work, Jeanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, taking walks with her dog, or enjoying a good book.
