More than 100, 4th grade students, new to Delano Intermediate School, attended the Students Transitioning with Excellence and Purpose (STEP) orientation this morning.
The purpose of piloting STEP at DIS was to ensure the transition from the elementary school to the intermediate school was positive for 4th grade students and they feel welcomed, included, comfortable and safe and as they begin a new year. Trained sixth graders served as leaders and mentors to attendees. Large and small group activities were scheduled throughout the day to address questions and concerns, and to calm anxieties in a fun environment.
By the end of the day, students learned about DIS, met many of the staff, received great learnings from a 6th grade mentor and met at least 10 other 4th graders, ensuring that no one on campus is a stranger at DIS. Check out the Delano Pubic Schools Facebook page for pictures of the event.
