The U.S. News recently announced the Delano Intermediate School is ranked the top middle school in Minnesota. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well they prepare their students for high school.
Several factors are considered when evaluating schools, such as the number of students enrolled, the type of environment the school is in and the school's overall proficiency levels in reading and math. At Delano Intermediate School, 76% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 82% scored at or above that level for reading.
Compared with the district, the school did better in math and better in reading. In Delano, Public School District, 75% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 76% tested at or above that level for math.
Delano Intermediate School did better in math and better in reading in this metric compared with students across the state. In Minnesota, 46% of students tested at or above the proficient level for reading, and 41% tested at or above that level for math.
Intermediate School Principal Katie Thompson attributes the prestigious top-place honor to the collective efforts of families and the school’s experienced teachers and staff, who are committed to meeting the educational needs of every student.
