Local author of children's books, Kathryn Egly recently visited Delano Elementary School (DES) for a conversation with students where she discussed her path to becoming an author.

Egly shared her earliest memories of writing. She encouraged students to journal about all things big and small; being sick, taking a car ride, going to the park, or getting a new toy. She asked students to write about the things, the see, smell, taste and touch, and what brings them joy.

Egly, from a family of five girls to being a mom of four boys explained how her life with her sisters and her adventures raising four boys inspires her books. Her stories are all based on true experiences with a little creative liberty. The students giggled at her real-life experiences with snakes, frogs and slime, and whispered tales of similar stories.

Egly who used to teach fourth grade, has authored three books available in the elementary school library. Her latest book: Turtle Trouble is a story of teamwork, curiosity, and a family’s determination to solve a problem together. Like all of her books, Turtle Trouble is about celebrating kindness, cooperation, and the fun of family life. Turtle Trouble as well as Egly’s other books can be purchased on her website https://kathrynegly.com/. Her visit was part of the month-long I Love to Read Month celebrations at DES.
