Third at state, and a new record


As a team, Delano swimmers and divers took third place at the Class A state meet Nov. 14-16. Along the way, the Tigers also picked up a state record and individual championship.

Delano scored 145 points to tie with Sauk Centre for third in competition at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Visitation of Mendota Heights won its seventh consecutive title with 318 points, and Hutchinson took second with 250 points. 

Individual results
Freshman Emma Kern set a new state record of 55.35 in the 100 backstroke to claim the individual championship. She also took fourth place in the 100 butterfly. 

Another swimmer to qualify for individual competition, Kylie Strobl, took eighth place in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 200 freestyle. 

Other individual highlights included Laila Rosenow qualifying for state in the 100 fly, and Avery Lommel becoming the first diver to ever represent Delano at state. 

Relay results
Delano’s relay teams also did well. The 400 freestyle relay team of Strobl, Rosenow, Kern and Shelby Benker took third place.

The 200 medley relay took fourth at state, with Kern, Rosenow, Abby Wadholm and Annabelle Wentzel competing.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Sydney York, Rosenow, Strobl and Josie Strobl took fifth place.
