Roundabout construction begins July 6

Beginning Tuesday, July 6, the north entrance to the school campus will be closed while a mini-roundabout is constructed at County State Aid Highway 30 and Tiger Drive. Planners expect to finish the project before school begins.

Anyone using school facilities during this time should access the campus from the south at Elm Avenue E.

No thru traffic will be allowed on CSAH 30 during the project, though access will be maintained for those who live near the project area. See the detour map here.

Per the Minnesota Department of Transportation, a mini-roundabout generally fits within the footprint of an existing intersection and includes a slightly raised center island rather than the large, landscaped island of a conventional roundabout. This allows trucks, buses or other large vehicles to successfully navigate the intersection. See a 3-minute MnDOT video on mini-roundabouts here.

Staff members from Delano Public Schools, the city of Delano and the Wright County Highway Department have examined the intersection and recommended this design to improve both safety and efficiency.

See this Wright County Highway Department news release for additional information.
