Pennies for Patients drive runs March 1-24

Posted on: Mar 1, 2021

After last spring’s Pennies for Patients drive was cut short by shutdowns due to COVID-19, the Delano High School Student Council is hoping for a return to normalcy this month.

The 2021 Pennies for Patients drive kicked off on Monday, March 1, and will continue until Wednesday, March 24. The goal is to raise $10,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

DHS set a new school record by cresting the $10,000 plateau for the first time in 2019, but 2020 was a different story.

“We raised about $3,000 dollars,” said Student Council member Nicholas Black. “Unfortunately, the shutdown occurred in the middle of our campaign last year, so it greatly affected our numbers from our $11,000 goal.”

While recent Pennies for Patients drives have generally included student assemblies and fun activities along the way, there will not be any extra events this spring due to COVID.

“We are going through a rough year, but Leukemia & Lymphoma Society needs donations the most this year,” said Black. “So whatever you can donate will be appreciated.”

Any community members wishing to donate are welcome to participate through the Delano High School donation page.
