DES students honor veterans

DES students had their own Veterans Day event on Friday, Nov. 8, when Adam Kessler, brother to DES kindergarten teacher Lauren Kessler, came in to speak.

The former intelligence analyst and Blackhawk helicopter pilot shared about branches of the military, jobs that service members do, and opportunities to help and protect others.

Students also learned about the concept of sacrifice and why it is important to thank veterans: because they spend long periods of time away from loved ones and sometimes deal with difficult situations.

Students were able to practice marching, standing at attention and saluting, and also had the opportunity to introduce family members who have served. Those family members also had time to share briefly about what branch they served in, when, and what their jobs were.
