While taking all appropriate measures to ensure a safe learning environment, Delano Public Schools will act in accordance with health and safety guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Due to updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Delano Public Schools is implementing updated COVID safety protocols for the 2023-24 school year.


What has changed?

  • Quarantining due to testing positive for COVID is no longer recommended.

What remains the same?

  • People who have symptoms of respiratory infections, or symptoms such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home. COVID symptoms.

What happens if you test positive for COVID?

  • Student and staff are asked to report to your schools health office if they test positive for COVID-19.
  • Students and staff can return to school if they are fever free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and has significant improvements in symptoms.
  • Isolation is no longer recommended or required.

What if I am a close contact with someone who has COVID?

  • If individuals feel ill, they should isolate and test for COVID.
  • Quarantining is not recommended for individuals who come into close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID. 

Will the schools still track cases?

  • School nurses will record cases of COVID, Influenza and other respiratory illnesses.
  • School nurses will report all respiratory illness outbreaks to MDH when 10% of their student population is absent from school on a given day with respiratory illness symptoms and/or a respiratory illness diagnosis.  
  • Health office personnel will notify affected families if there are outbreaks in particular classrooms or student groups.
