Pre-Season Information

Practices: For the first two weeks, we will meet at Lake Rebecca, at the Hilltop Area, at 8:00 a.m., to avoid the heat, except for Monday, August 22nd, when we meet at school at 8:00 a.m. to get out to Litchfield for the Conference Jamboree. Practices run until 9:45 a.m. or so. Some days we may meet at other areas of Rebecca to use other facilities. Like the playground.

Monday, August 29, we will start meeting at school, on the west side of the track, at 3:10.

We practice rain or shine. We stop running if and when there's lightning.

With rosters in hand, let’s try to arrange carpooling, at least, or ride bikes out there to be “green”.

Before practice each morning, try this: As soon as you get up, drink two whole glasses of water. That way it's in you when you get to practice. Then eat some breakfast. Like whole wheat toast with peanut butter on it. It's good to have a little protein in the morning.

What to bring to practice: while nothing else besides *yourself and a *positive mental attitude is really needed, it nice to have some extra things like:

*A water bottle, IF AND ONLY IF you bring it back home and refill it.

It’s completely senseless to buy water. And it's bad for the environment. Don't get me started.

*Dry foot wear to go home in – if it’s nice there will be dew on the grass and if it’s raining, well then. Once in a while, an early morning thunderstorm will have passed on over and headed east before we start running.

            *Dry shirt to change into.

If it’s cool out, warmups of some sort are nice. But don’t leave them there. (One August, it was in the high 20’s in the mornings during the second week of practice. Caused crops to freeze in the fields, even. Probably won’t be that way this year.)

Each day’s practice begins with column work, exercises to strengthen ab’s, and ends with stretching. Some stiffness and pain is to be expected but it goes away very fast!

Thursday, September 15th, after the Delano Invitational, is our Parents’ Night. We have the park reserved already so we can use the grills to have a pot luck.
