College Planning for the Sciences and Engineering
It’s never too early to start looking at colleges since the fields of study in the sciences are getting very narrow in scope.
Say you wanted to go into marine biology. Here’s how to start. In a Google search box, do something like “best colleges for marine biology” – use those quotes to limit the search!
I got 84 hits. A little further searching yields way more definite webpages.
Select a few colleges you might be interested in going to and either click on the link from where you’re at OR Google search them, again using quotes.
For example, here’s my alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College. See the Admissions icon along the bar?
Click the sequence through “Admission” to find out how much it costs, how much financial aide is available, etc. There’s always the email of people in the admissions department that you should google so that you make a personal connection at that place. In this country, it’s never what you know but who you know that counts – seriously.
But considering that “what you know” part. Have you followed a rigorous course of study while here at DHS? Every science and math class you can? Have you taken the ACT and, what the heck!, the PSAT and the SAT, also?
If you have questions, come talk to me.
I’m planning of a morning soon when people who are interested would meet in the IMC, get on line, and do some guided surfing of the Web, to start to see what’s out there. Watch the announcements or this page!
