Important safety reminders

The season’s first frost, a sign of more inclement weather to come, is a good time to remind drivers passing through the Delano Public Schools campus of some important rules for safety.

* All student drop-offs or pick-ups must occur in the tennis court parking lot or at the Tiger Drive curb on the east side of the middle school (see map included with this article). No other drop-off locations, including at stop signs, are allowed.

* When dropping students off in the designated lane on southbound Tiger Drive, students must exit the vehicle on the curb side to avoid conflicts with passing traffic.

* Only parents with special permission are allowed to drop students off at the front of the middle school.

* Drive slowly, stay off mobile devices and make sure vehicle windows are clear of frost, ice and snow.

“Overall it has gone really well this fall. We just need to put out some reminders,” said Activities Administrator Mike Lindquist, who oversees parking and traffic. “We have a few people driving too fast and a few who are not dropping their kids off in the right place, so these are some things we need to focus on.”
